Valley of Guardians

seasonal live-ops game · shipped at scale

browser battler with prize pools, leaderboards, shop flows, and daily guardian reset ops

Valley of Guardians, screen capture

Valley of Guardians is a browser game product that kept growing beyond the core mechanic. It combines React + Vite + Supabase across auth, battle surfaces, leaderboards, shop flows, seasonal systems, prize-pool logic, admin tooling, and live operations.

Live ops

The scale story is why Valley of Guardians matters. Nicolás describes it as roughly 80,000 users, around 10,000 of them recurring, and more than 1M guardians. The operational side runs underneath: daily guardian-attack resets, backup reset scripts, and a 50-worker cron fan-out in four scheduled waves just after midnight UTC.

Product surface

It is a broad product surface, not one isolated game screen. Battle, leaderboard, shop, inventory, quests, pre-season, between-season, and admin pages all exist, which is why Valley is useful proof of product breadth and live game operations rather than only one mechanic.

Economy and state

A lot of Valley complexity lives in state coordination. The app ties season state, prize pool, multiple leaderboard modes, daily attacks, guardian inventory, and rewards together across stores and product pages, so the challenge is keeping economy and operations aligned while the game stays live.

Reset operations

The live-ops layer is explicit infrastructure, not a TODO. It runs daily and weekly quest resets plus guardian-attack resets with multi-worker cron waves, hash partitioning, row locking, and manual backup SQL for failure recovery.
